The Villain's Sister - Chapter 58
3. Daydream
Although that had happened with Tristan, Giselle was doing better than expected.
She was absorbed in decorating her new home, going to see performances, or knitting to the sound of the TV.
At times, she wore a gloomy expression, but Johan hoped she would continue with her daily life and erase the policeman Tristan Lindbergh from her mind.
So seeing her chat with friends as if nothing had happened, and picking fights with him like usual, was satisfying.
The fact that he felt this way meant he wasn’t in his right mind.
But isn’t that just how romantic desire between a man and a woman works?
This fever came from Giselle, and he was desperate to endure the high fever he experienced for the first time in his life by her side.
“Mmm-mmm-mmm. Mmm-mmm.”
“That song again.”
The tune Giselle often hummed had lyrics too crude to say aloud.
“Isn’t it good?”
“The lyrics are horrible, I hate it.”
“I liked it. I knew your taste since you buttoned your collar all the way up.”
When he glared at her, Giselle shrugged and set down her knitting needles.
“There are even spicier songs. Don’t get so dramatic over just this.”
“If such songs exist, it must be a sign the world is ending.”
“Such grandpa taste. So boring. Oh, right. I need to go to Maria’s house. I have something to give her.”
So Giselle took Johan and headed to Maria’s house.
Since there was no dedicated parking at Maria’s place, they had to stop by the nearby public parking lot first.
The moment they passed in front of Maria’s house, Giselle’s face went pale.
Her expression hardened instantly, and while Johan was parking, she pulled a gun from the front seat drawer.
“…There’s someone in Maria’s house. She’s not the type to close the curtains.”
“You stay here. I’ll go alone.”
“You go to the front door and distract them. I’ll enter from the back.”
“Giselle.”
Johan grabbed her wrist to take the gun.
But instead of handing it over, she pulled the safety pin with her other hand.
“If Maria gets hurt, it’ll be because of me. I’d rather bite my tongue and die than turn my back on a friend out of fear.”
Her firm will not to retreat was clear.
Johan instinctively realized this was Giselle’s final, non-negotiable line.
He took out another gun from his coat and handed it to her. It was a gun for anti-magic use.
“Come out in one minute. Don’t forget, your safety is the most important.”
Johan exited the car first and vaulted the gate, entering through the front door.
Inside the gate, Big Bear’s men were swarming.
Bang! Bang-bang-bang! Bang!
Gunfire erupted and blood splattered.
Gunpowder flew through a broken window.
Johan reflexively redirected its trajectory and hurled it back into the house.
The thought that he shouldn’t use magic came after.
‘I’ll kill them all.’
Boom!
A small explosion erupted, and blood-covered gangsters flew out.
“Crazy bastard!”
“Get down!”
Johan snatched guns from the dead gangsters and hunted them one by one.
It was a one-sided slaughter—something Big Bear hadn’t expected.
“So you’re that strange guy Raphael’s been keeping.”
As the situation spiraled beyond expectations, Big Bear stepped in personally.
By now, Giselle must’ve entered from the back.
He had to lure Big Bear at least to the front gate.
Johan drew his sword made of moonstone.
Moonstone was a material immune to abilities.
“You look like someone worth paying. How about working under me for triple what you’re getting now?”
Johan answered by slashing at Big Bear with his sharpened blade.
The blade was blocked by Big Bear’s knuckles. They had been custom-made to counter moonstone.
With her rock-hard, muscular body and superhuman abilities, Big Bear was like an unbreakable stone.
Grinning, Big Bear launched her attack.
Johan parried the attacks lightly, retreating as if dodging, luring Big Bear outside the building.
While Johan was drawing Big Bear away, Giselle found Maria collapsed in the living room.
“Maria, Maria.”
Maybe she had resisted—her whole body was bloodied and unconscious.
Her breathing was strange, and her ankle was twisted.
‘It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have contacted her…’
Tears poured from Giselle’s eyes as she drew out her ability.
Her chest burned with rage.
Now she understood why Raphael revered violence.
If Maria woke up, she would do whatever it took to eliminate them all.
If Maria didn’t wake up, she would burn them all alive and kill them in the most painful way possible.
“I’m sorry, Maria. I was foolish.”
Overcome with emotion, Giselle’s hands trembled.
As her ability began to flow through Maria’s body, Giselle helped her sit up.
Gunfire and crashing sounds continued outside.
Crash!
The wall crumbled, and Big Bear appeared through the gap.
Realizing too late that Johan had lured her away, she smiled more brightly than anyone.
“Hey, pretty girl. Hello. I was just about to call you, and here you are in person. How sweet of you.”
Giselle didn’t hesitate and fired the gun.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Supporting Maria with one arm made the recoil intense.
The bullets bounced off Big Bear’s body with a clang!
“Did your brother not buy you moonstone bullets? Cheap bastard, despite all that money.”
“I’ll kill you.”
“How cute. I’m going to chew you up. So go ahead, curse me some more.”
Big Bear twitched her nose and laughed, showing white teeth as if having the time of her life.
“Don’t be scared. I’m joking. Ahaha. I need your body for corpse trading, so I’ll treat you real nice. Don’t resist and come here.”
“Eat shit, you damn wench.”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
After firing until the bullets ran out, Giselle hurled the gun at Big Bear’s face.
At that moment, Johan broke through the gang and wrapped a wire around Big Bear’s neck.
Big Bear grabbed the wire instead and launched a counterattack.
Meanwhile, Giselle carried Maria on her back and ran.
“Shit!”
When Johan didn’t falter like before, Big Bear pulled out a magic item from her clothes and activated it to escape.
Recognizing the item, Johan grabbed Big Bear’s collar just before activation.
Thanks to that, the two of them were flung out past the front gate together.
“Puh. Ptooey! Make sure you kill this bastard!”
Coughing up thick blood, Big Bear left Johan to the backup gang that had arrived and reentered the house.
“There’s no end to these underlings.”
Johan frowned as he dealt with the charging gang.
He needed to chase Big Bear and check on Giselle quickly, but the damned thugs blocked his path.
He wanted to use magic to finish them all at once.
“Damn it.”
Clenching his teeth, Johan swiftly took down the gang members.
It was around that time that the police arrived.
‘Tristan Lindbergh?’
His eyes met the gray ones.
‘Of all people, why did he have to come?’
His nerves flared.
Because he wasn’t appearing as Red Shadow, he couldn’t use magic freely. That meant he couldn’t act as he usually did.
‘If I use magic here…’
Though not a celebrity, photos taken during his military service had been published in newspapers several times.
Even if he claimed to be reclusive, the villains of Mist Island often exceeded expectations.
Not yet.
Yes, he could still endure it for now.
There was no time to think further. Johan clenched his jaw and charged back inside.
Giselle was in danger.
He confronted Big Bear, who was chasing Giselle, smashing through ceiling and floor.
Blood splattered, and flesh tore.
Big Bear’s enhanced fists were no different from giant axes slamming down.
“Son of a bitch. Just as annoying as your master. Where the hell did Raphael dig up trash like you?”
Covered in blood and sweat, Johan exhaled heavily.
Big Bear was also slashed and drenched in blood.
The two glared at each other and caught their breaths.
Crack.
Big Bear shattered the magic stone attached to her knuckles, causing magic to swirl in the air.
When the magic touched a wooden box lodged to the side, the box exploded into splinters.
Johan frowned and channeled his own magic.
Rampaging magic could be suppressed by overwhelming it with stronger magic.
“A wizard, huh.”
Adjusting her stance, Big Bear lunged at Johan.
Just as Johan moved his magic to strike, Big Bear grinned with bloodied teeth and veered off course, bursting through the ceiling.
“No!”
He simultaneously disassembled the wild magic and chased after Big Bear.
But he was a step too late.
That golden substance he had seen before was sucked into Giselle.
“Giselle?”
She looked like she resisted for a moment, then her body went limp.
Clatter.
An empty vial rolled on the floor.
With her shoulder pierced by magic, Big Bear let out a groan and collapsed.
It was the perfect opportunity to strike Big Bear’s neck, but he couldn’t.
Giselle was limp—truly like a corpse.
His heart dropped.
His blood ran cold and his head went numb.
Even then, he couldn’t think of anything.
Pale-faced, Johan checked on Giselle.
Her hands were as cold as wandering outside without gloves on a winter’s day.
The pulse at her neck was faint, as if it could stop any moment.
Ratatatatatatat!
Bullets rained from the sky.
Big Bear’s underling had arrived in a helicopter.
Tristan shook Johan. “What are you doing?! Can’t you see the danger?!”
Bullets pierced through the collapsed ceiling and unstable roof, tearing up the floor.
“Sweetheart, I’ll miss you.”
Grinning, Big Bear grabbed the fast rope and lifted into the sky.
Tristan carried Maria and escaped the scene.
Johan used magic to block the incoming bullets. Then he forced the gang members’ hands.
He made them aim at each other with the downward-facing machine guns, then fired.
The helicopter spun in midair, spewing smoke.
Johan picked up Giselle. Her cold body made him feel like vomiting.
Torryy
Nobody was willing to sacrifice themselves for her. She was right all along. They always regret it when it’s too late. Johan trying to hide his identity is fair… but what use is that to Giselle. She was willing to sacrifice herself for her brother and her bestfriend, Maria. this world didn’t deserve her.
