The Possessed Evil Woman Wreaks Havoc - Chapter 99
One of the many reasons I don’t like angels.
Whenever I spoke with them, I always felt like I was talking to a puppet.
I looked back down at the main street. And I noticed something unexpected.
There wasn’t just one angel. There were two.
“Twins.”
Nigel flinched at my words.
“Twins? If they’re twins… they might be the ones I’ve heard of.”
“The ones you’ve heard of?”
“I don’t know them personally. Just heard rumors. There are twins who serve a rather high-ranking figure.”
Conscious of Jessie’s presence, Nigel trailed off.
But I had a general idea of what he was getting at.
Whether in the Demon Realm or the Celestial Realm, twins were incredibly rare.
So the odds that the twins Nigel had heard of were the same ones walking past my shop right now were very high.
Well.
I could find out for sure once I got my hands on them.
I rose from my seat.
“Jessie. Head back to the estate first. Nigel and I will have a brief conversation with those two and return.”
Leaving those words behind, I hurried down the stairs. Nigel followed after me and asked, “Bella, but what are you going to do with those twins? It’s too crowded here to talk…”
I corrected Nigel’s misunderstanding. “I’m not planning on talking.”
“Huh? Then—”
Even at the best of times, I wasn’t known for having a gentle personality, but around angels, it was especially hard to keep my temper in check.
“And we can always lure them somewhere else.”
It’d be inconvenient for both sides to cause a scene in a crowded place.
“Using what method?” Nigel asked.
I replied confidently, “I know a very good one. Just trust me.”
***
“Bella, this is the great plan you mentioned?”
“It is. And it’s working splendidly, isn’t it?”
“It’s a method, sure, but I’m not convinced it’s a good one.”
Nigel and I were now sprinting at full speed.
Thanks to the superior stamina of beastkin and demons, we weren’t out of breath…
I glanced behind me. Sure enough, the angels were chasing us.
“If it works this well, that makes it a good method.”
“Still, pickpocketing is a bit… isn’t that going too far?”
Just as Nigel said, I had just stolen from those angels.
“Oops, my mistake.”
“Human. Are you blind? Out of all this space, you just had to bump into me—”
“—Because it wasn’t a mistake, you idiots.”
“Wait a minute. That thing in your hand—that’s mine—”
I looked at the gold pouch in my hand and smirked slightly.
At first, I was surprised by how heavy it was.
But thinking about it, those angels had been parading around the streets looking fairly human.
Their annoying wings were hidden, and their clothes were something humans might wear. It was like they were doing their best not to stand out.
If they were pretending to be human and walking around the Middle Realm, they’d need travel expenses just like humans would.
That must be why they were so eager in chasing me down.
Well, the provocation probably helped too.
Nigel looked at me with an expression full of unspoken words.
“…When did you learn how to pickpocket?”
“Amon taught me. He said it was a very useful skill. I didn’t believe him at first—”
Didn’t think it’d be this useful. Turns out Amon wasn’t lying.
We kept running for quite a while. Only after luring the angels into a deserted open space did we stop.
I checked their faces. Not just their faces—their clothes and hairstyles were identical too.
Chin-length bob. Gray eyes.
An androgynous appearance that made it impossible to tell if they were male or female.
And yet… they looked oddly familiar.
The Demon Realm and the Celestial Realm didn’t get along, but that didn’t mean there was zero contact.
They sometimes sent diplomatic envoys to one another.
Did I meet them back when I went to the Celestial Realm as part of a delegation?
I pondered in silence.
Nigel leaned in and whispered quietly to me, “Bella, I think those are the twins I mentioned. The ones who serve that high-ranking figure.”
“So who’s that high-ranking figure?”
“Gabriel. They’re Gabriel’s hands and feet.”
“…Is that so?”
So they’re Gabriel’s subordinates. I hadn’t planned on talking things out from the start, but now I was even more sure.
“You reckless humans. Do you have any idea who we are—”
One of the angels started to speak. I cut him off and got straight to the point.
“Hey. Why did you bastards come down to the Middle Realm?”
“…What are you? How do you know who we are?”
I beamed at the two of them and released a bit of my magic.
“Looks like you have no intention of answering. You have two choices.”
“This aura… you’re not human. You’re a demon, aren’t you? Why is a demon in a human’s body?”
The twins spoke alternately.
Their faces were so identical it was hard to tell them apart. Then again, there wasn’t much point in trying.
“First option: you tell me right now why you came to the Middle Realm. Then I’ll hit you just once and let it go. Second option: I beat you until you’re bawling and then you tell me. Just so you know, it’ll be quite painful.”
I was being generous, giving them a choice.
But the angels didn’t respond to my words and whispered something to each other before asking me, “Demon, what’s your name?”
I’d waited long enough.
I ignored their question and said, “So you chose the second one.”
“Wait! Let’s talk first!”
I brushed off their plea and launched my attack.
The magic flowing from my body shot across the ground and quickly reached the spot where the angels stood.
Soon, my magic wrapped around their feet like tangled tree roots.
“Hold on, what is this—!”
“Ack!”
The angels struggled to break free.
But mere regular angels couldn’t possibly resist a Demon Lord.
I glanced at Nigel and said, “Nigel, you take one. I’ll handle the other.”
“Bella, maybe we should try talking—”
“You know angels never listen to reason.”
“The one not listening is you—ugh, never mind. Forget I said anything.”
I marched straight toward the angel on the right.
With a flick of my finger, his body swayed and collapsed to the ground.
“Wait! Demon! Let’s talk—!”
The angel shouted in panic, but maybe I was too excited to finally have prey. His voice registered only as a faint buzz in my ears.
An angel’s greatest weakness was their wings.
I pinned the angel’s body to the ground with my knee.
Then reached for him. Though his wings were hidden—
I gathered magic at my fingertips and extended my hand toward the angel’s back.
As soon as my magic-laced fingers touched his back, the concealed wings slowly emerged.
“Ack! What the hell are you doing!”
The angel squirmed beneath me. Ignoring him, I grabbed his wings.
Then, I suddenly froze when I saw the tip of one wing.
“Hm?”
The wingtip had a bite taken out of it. As if someone had chomped on it.
Something about the shape felt oddly familiar. I tilted my head, then licked my lips unconsciously.
The angel beneath me, who had seen everything, stared at me in horror.
“Gasp! No way—are you—?!”
“Ah. So it’s you guys.”
I let out an exclamation. Now I remembered why their faces looked familiar.
The reason I hated angels. It was because of what they did to me first.
“Hey kid? Are you the newly born Lord of Contracts?”
“……”
“I think so? The energy feels right… Demon, but kinda like Lady Uriel, doesn’t it?”
“Let’s get her before the other lords notice. Lord Gabriel’s waiting.”
“Is it okay to take someone this young? Isn’t this kidnapping?”
“What’s the worst that could happen? It’s Archangel Gabriel.”
“Grrr…”
“Ack! Jane, get her off me! Damn, how is a kid this strong!”
Ptui.
Before I reached maturity…
For a while, angels kept showing up trying to abduct me to the Celestial Realm.
Usually, the other lords noticed first and chased them off—
But once, just once, I faced them alone.
That time, I bit off part of an angel’s wing.
Back then, all I tasted was fishy blood, but I even licked my lips on purpose to scare them.
