Amon continued, “Humans really are fascinating beings. Living lives shorter than a hundred years, yet feeling so many emotions.”

Love, sorrow, anger, despair.

When you see all the emotions packed into such a short life, it’s almost awe-inspiring.

“If you’re really that bored, go down to the middle realm and have some fun. Disguise yourself as a human and live among them… it’ll be quite entertaining.”

Hearing Amon’s words, I paused and thought for a moment.

“But there’s one warning.”

“What is it?”

Amon didn’t answer my question right away. Instead, he suddenly started talking about Belial.

“Youngest, did you know Belial once fell in love with a human?”

“…Belial?”

If I had to pick the strangest and most incomprehensible of the Demon Lords, my choice would, without hesitation, be Belial.

He was that chaotic, instinct-driven, selfish… a completely unreadable existence.

And now I was hearing that Belial had once fallen in love with a human?

“Don’t lie. That’s impossible.”

I dismissed Amon’s words as nonsense.

“…Why do you think that?”

“Because it’s Belial.”

I looked at Amon in confusion at his question.

A Lord of Lust falling in love with a human? That shouldn’t even be possible.

“That idiot must’ve confused lust with love.”

“If you’d seen Belial back then, you wouldn’t say that. Anyway!”

Amon warned me.

“If you go down to the middle realm, never grow attached to a human.”

I snorted at his advice. “Amon, do I look like an idiot like Belial to you?”

“Belial’s not an idiot… Anyway, don’t ignore my warning. Got it?”

I let Amon’s words go in one ear and out the other.

Amon worried far too much. There was no way I, a demon, would become attached to a human.

As we chatted while walking, we eventually reached the Demon God’s castle.

Amon leaned in and whispered to me, “Youngest. Please, just be careful with your words in front of Father. I really want to see you live a long life.”

I nodded half-heartedly at Amon’s words.

Though inwardly, my thoughts were elsewhere.

I hadn’t planned on going to the middle realm anytime soon, but what Amon said earlier piqued my interest.

And so—

“I wish someone would go down to the middle realm.”

When the Demon God said those words, I raised my hand.

“Bella, are you insane?!”

After the Demon God dismissed us, Amon followed behind me and shouted.

“I was only following your advice,” I replied, puzzled by his unexpected reaction.

“Going down for fun and going to invade the middle realm are two entirely different things!”

“Both sound fun to me. What’s the difference?”

I couldn’t understand Amon’s point, so I asked him again.

He let out a deep sigh and began pinching my cheek.

“Hey! Let go!”

His grip was stronger than expected, making it hard to shake him off.

Frowning, I glared at Amon.

Amon looked at me with a troubled expression and said, “If it were just for fun, fine. But since Father’s set on destroying humanity… don’t you dare grow attached. Got it?”

The reason the Demon God was sending one of the Lords to the middle realm was for reconnaissance.

While staying there, I was to assess the situation and report back to him.

“But why does the Demon God hate humanity so much?”

At my question, Amon slowly began to explain.

“The middle realm originally belonged to the Water God.”

“That dead god?”

The Water God, who chose to die of her own will, had been one of the Demon God’s siblings, along with the Celestial God.

“Her final creation was humanity. She created them and shared her power with them.”

Because humanity inherited the Power of Creation, unlike angels or demons, they could give birth to children.

“That’s what Father hates. He wants to reclaim the Power of Creation the Water God left to humanity.”

I slowly pieced together Amon’s explanation in my mind.

No matter how I thought about it, the Demon God was…

“Basically senile—”

Amon quickly covered my mouth again.

This time, I didn’t resist. I knew I had messed up.

Saying that inside the Demon God’s territory was dangerous.

Still, my opinion didn’t change.

He wanted to destroy the last legacy of his sibling?

There was no better word than “senile.”

Amon placed his other hand on top of my head and spoke in a tired voice, “Our Youngest, always so lacking in caution.”

…What was with that annoying nickname?

Before I could protest, Amon continued, “When you go to the middle realm, be careful with humans. Don’t you dare grow attached. Got it?”

Even though I’d already made it clear I wouldn’t get attached, Amon must not have believed me.

In the end, I couldn’t hold back and snapped, “Amon. There’s no way I’d get attached to some human. I’m a Demon Lord, for goodness’ sake.”

I had never left the Demon Realm before, so I had never met a human.

So at the time, my feelings toward humans were closer to indifference.

Still, from time to time, I felt a bit sorry for them, doomed to perish under the Demon God’s incomprehensible wrath.

Even if I held no malice toward them, I never saw humans as equals.

Not just because they were a different race—humans were incomparably weaker than demons.

Which is why Amon’s words naturally rubbed me the wrong way.

Amon nodded at what I said. “…Well, you’re not wrong. You really are so arrogant, youngest.”

Even after that, Amon kept muttering to himself, “Our youngest’s charm lies in that innocent nature that comes from a life without hardship.”

He played with my hair as he continued, “I hope you stay innocent for a long, long time.”

I blinked. The ceiling looked blurry—it seemed my body hadn’t recovered yet.

After blinking a few more times, the ceiling gradually came into focus. This was the tent assigned to the House of Dunkeld at the hunting grounds.

Feeling around with my hands, I touched a bed and blanket.

Why… am I lying here?

As I searched my memory, I recalled the moment right before I collapsed.

Trying to get out of trouble, I faked being sick—only to actually pass out.

Because of the self-inflicted internal injury, my body wasn’t in good shape.

On top of that, my mind was muddled from memories of the past that surfaced while I was unconscious.

At that moment, someone rushed to my bedside and shouted, “Hey! You’re awake?!”

It was Gabby.

His face looked more panicked than usual, which caught my attention, but what mattered more right now were the memories that had just resurfaced.

What did I say to Amon again… Ah, right.

“Amon, do I look like an idiot like Belial to you?”

That’s what I said when he told me not to get attached to a human.

Amon… I guess I really am…

“…an idiot just like him.”

Hearing me mutter, Gabby panicked and started shouting for someone.

“She’s spouting nonsense! Ah, f***! Get a doctor or priest or someone, now!”

At the word “priest,” I flinched.

First, I had to manage my internal injuries with a minimal use of magic…

In an instant, my breathing became noticeably easier.

After treating the injury, I isolated the demonic energy from my magic and suppressed it as much as possible. At this level, not even the grandfather of a priest would suspect I was a demon.

And then—

Sudden drowsiness hit me again, and I closed my eyes.

Once more, memories of the past began to unfold in my dreams.

After the Demon God was sealed, banquets were held in the Aizen Kingdom’s royal court nearly every day.

Today was yet another one of those endless banquets.

I glanced toward a corner of the banquet hall.

There, drunk people were collapsed like sacks of grain.

At least they were quiet once they passed out drunk.

All around, glasses shattered, and shouting matches broke out.

It wasn’t so different from banquets in the Demon Realm.

Demons or humans—it seemed both became disgraceful once they drank.

Thinking that to myself, I picked up the largest bottle of liquor and two glasses from the table and left the hall.

I scaled the building wall and climbed up onto the roof.

“Bella?”

Ethan, who had already settled on the roof, raised an eyebrow when he saw me.

“I knew you’d be here.” I handed Ethan one of the glasses.

He took it and chuckled. “How’d you know I’d be here?”

“You’re always here. Every time there’s a banquet.”

I avoided crowds of humans because I was a demon, but Ethan was human too—and yet he also avoided people.

Well, it wasn’t entirely incomprehensible. Given Ethan’s background, he always stuck out among the nobles.

That must be why he always escaped up here during banquets.

I plopped down beside Ethan and opened the bottle.

After filling our glasses, we drank side by side.

“Mmm. Human alcohol is always terrible.”

“What’s demon realm liquor like, then?”

“Once it hits your throat, your esophagus melts.”

“Nice joke.”

“…It’s not a joke.”

We had excellent regeneration, so a melted esophagus was nothing.

“The Demon Realm really is insane.”

Ethan clicked his tongue after hearing my explanation.
