The princess, lying on the altar, began to pour out her emotions to the king before her death.

“…Am I not your daughter? Did you ever love me, Father?”

“It’s not that I didn’t love you. It’s just… I loved your mother more.”

The king offered a pitiful excuse to the princess.

“Why?”

I asked the man.

It was a question laden with meaning. Why? Why this?

Gabriel’s hostility towards me from the very beginning. The animosity, the cause of which I could never understand, had escalated to this point.

“…Even if I wanted to offer an excuse, I couldn’t. This is solely because of my selfishness.”

With those words, Zachary—no, Gabriel—aimed a blade at my heart.

It was an unusually bright moonlit night.

All I could do was helplessly watch the blade fall toward my heart.

As the blade pierced my heart, I couldn’t tear my gaze away from it, gleaming under the moonlight.

As if entranced by that silvery glow.

The king stabbed the princess’s heart.

Screams erupted from the audience.

Even though they knew it was a play, the performance was so vivid that some audience members couldn’t help but cry out.

I stared blankly at Belial, who lay on the altar.

My breathing grew increasingly rapid. At some point, it became difficult to breathe.

Though we weren’t underwater, I felt like I was drowning.

‘What was that just now?’

“Sister, are you okay?”

Becky noticed that something was off and asked with concern.

Only after her small hand vigorously rubbed my back did my breathing return to normal.

I slowly gathered my thoughts.

The vision that had unfolded before my eyes just now…

No matter how vivid, no matter how much my heart raced as if it had been real, I couldn’t forget this:

Nothing like that ever happened. Zachary was the one who betrayed me, not Gabriel. At least, that’s what my memories tell me.

Surely someone is playing a cruel prank on me.

‘But…’

Why do I feel like something is terribly wrong?

Something glinted in the audience.

I quickly turned my head.

It was silver. Stage lights scattered over someone’s head, creating a silvery shimmer.

Sitting there was Kayden.

My gaze slowly moved from Kayden’s silver hair to his face.

He was crying as he watched the stage.

‘Why is he crying?’

Kayden seemed unaware of his own tears.

It made sense; his expression remained completely still. If not for the tears streaming down his cheeks, he might have even appeared serene.

Seeing a man with a face so similar to Zachary’s crying while watching the stage stirred indescribably complex emotions within me.

As soon as the play ended, I dragged Belial into an empty room beside the stage.

Bang!

I slammed the door shut and immediately began interrogating Belial.

“What did you do?”

“What are you talking about?”

“What did you do? This has to be your doing!” I shouted, glaring at Belial.

A vision so vivid it felt real—it had to be Belial’s trickery.

It had to be.

At my accusation, Belial furrowed his brows as if genuinely wronged. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, but whatever it is, it wasn’t me. I didn’t do anything to you.”

“Do you think I’ll believe that?”

“I swear on my father’s name.”

“Then I trust you even less. Don’t think I don’t know how much you despised the Demon God.”

“Well, that’s true.”

Belial didn’t bother denying my words. His face was still plastered with a grin.

Despite his hatred for the Demon God, he still referred to him as “Father.”

His hypocritical behavior made me scoff.

Belial may be an idiot, but he’s also lived for over twenty thousand years. With that much time, even a snail could become a scholar.

Belial, who was slightly less capable than a snail, might not be a scholar, but he was at least an inscrutable idiot.

“What did you show me? Tell me. Tell me right now!”

I grabbed Belial by the collar and started shaking him.

“Bella, calm down.”

Belial said this as he restrained my wrists with his hands.

“Why would I hurt our youngest? Do you know how boring the demon realm would be without you?”

Belial firmly held me down so I couldn’t move and spoke.

Still wearing an expression that said he genuinely didn’t understand, he made me more confused than ever.

Could it be that it wasn’t Belial?

‘Was I too hasty in jumping to conclusions?’

Come to think of it, Belial had no real reason to play tricks on me.

We weren’t on hostile terms, and Belial had always been favorable toward me.

Then what was the vision I just saw?

When I calmed down slightly, Belial released me and asked, “So, what happened?”

“On stage… I saw something. But…”

The problem was I couldn’t make sense of what I had seen.

Because such an event had never occurred. No matter how hard I tried to recall my memories, there was nothing like that. Of course, I hadn’t gone as far as to dig into my sealed memories…

But I know myself well. If something like that had actually happened…

I wouldn’t have stayed still.

I would have charged into the Celestial Realm immediately, aiming for Gabriel’s life.

Not that I would have succeeded.

Gabriel was the leader of the angels. That bastard was incredibly strong.

Someone like Lilith might be an even match for Gabriel, but even she couldn’t guarantee victory.

For someone like me, who couldn’t even challenge Lilith, it was practically impossible to take Gabriel’s life.

‘Still, if I threw myself at him as if offering my life, I might have permanently taken one of his arms at least.’

How dare he. How dare he touch my…

It seemed Belial’s earlier statement was correct. My temper clearly outstripped my survival instincts.

There was no way I could have sealed such a memory without a second thought.

But what if…

Isn’t there always a “what if”?

‘What if there was even a shred of truth in that vision I just saw?’

Realizing my hands were trembling, I clenched them into fists. Without realizing it, I applied too much force, causing my nails to dig into my palms until they turned red.

“Oh dear, our youngest is going to hurt her hands.”

Belial gently pried open my fists one finger at a time, carefully straightening them.

“Belial… do you think humans can be trusted?”

The warmth emanating from his touch prompted an unexpected question.

Once, I might have trusted humans. But after Zachary’s betrayal, the wound made it impossible to trust them any longer.

But what if Zachary hadn’t betrayed me?

“Bella. Do I really look that foolish to you? Wait! If you were about to nod, don’t. That would hurt my feelings.”

Belial stopped me just as I was about to nod.

“Of course, I don’t trust humans. I don’t trust demons either. Heck, I don’t even trust myself.”

“That might actually be wise.”

“Not trusting myself? Ouch! Our youngest is so cruel to me.”

Belial feigned hurt in an exaggerated voice.

“…But it’s not always like that. Occasionally, there are beings that make you want to believe.”

Belial’s voice softened strangely as he said this, catching my curiosity.

“So what happened?”

“You want to hear about your big sister’s love life? Well, it starts about twenty thousand years ago…”

“Never mind. I have no interest in defiling my ears.”

I firmly declined. Belial’s love life was undoubtedly something that my six-hundred-year-old self wasn’t ready to handle.

Shrugging, Belial opened his mouth again. “By the way, Bella, did you realize that your way of speaking reverted to normal earlier? As I thought, your manner of speech is an affectation.”

“What nonsense are you spouting?”

I glared at Belial, who responded with a sheepish expression.

“…My apologies, my lady. It seems this humble girl has misspoken.”

Belial reverted to that strange, overly polite speech again.

The tone alone was enough to irritate me. But instead of stopping there, Belial began to pinch my cheeks.

“Come to think of it, while I’ve seen our youngest lose her temper many times, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her truly angry. Surprisingly… it’s thrilling.”

Ugh.

Frowning, I took a step back from Belial.

But he closed the distance again and asked, “Could you get angry for me one more time?”

Already unsettled by what had happened on stage, Belial’s pestering pushed my annoyance to its limit.

Endure it. I have to endure— Wait, why do I need to?

I bit Belial’s hand. Hard enough to taste blood.

“Ack!”

Belial’s scream echoed throughout the dressing room.
