No way.

That was the first thought that crossed my mind.

I still hadn’t told Belial my true identity—more precisely, that I had decided to impersonate Archangel Isabella.

But the more I thought about it, the more that “no way” stuck in my head.

“What’s with that stupid look?” Belial glared at me coldly as he spoke.

At his rudeness in daring to call me stupid, anger flared inside me, and at the same time—

I swallowed hard.

It seemed best not to provoke Belial any further.

I killed them.

Belial’s voice rang once more in my head.

And that wasn’t the end of it.

That one came looking for me again. After I killed them… So I guess I didn’t kill them after all?

That’s what he said.

Should I consider it fortunate?

Back then, I hadn’t thought much of it, but now the fact that Belial failed to kill the impostor brought me some relief.

Still, I had to avoid being attacked by Belial. If I got hurt now, there would be no time to recover.

I rolled my eyes and looked Belial over from head to toe.

The heavy presence of magic. As much as I hated to admit it, facing Belial now was incredibly difficult. Even after fully regaining my power, he was still this strong.

‘If only I had been born ten thousand years earlier. Or at least had fully possessed my power.’

If that were the case.

I recalled my past memories.

There was one time I had defeated Belial. Just once. The first and last battle.

“Youngest? So why did you call me here? To jump off a cliff together? Honestly, I think the ground here is weak. It looks like it’s about to crumble.”

“Die, Belial!”

I had shoved him from the highest place in the Demon Realm and fought him while he was injured…

It had been a rather petty and devilish fight.

But now, to expect the same stroke of luck…

I looked Belial over once again.

Unlike usual, this Belial wasn’t foolish, and I couldn’t take him on.

I slowly prepared to step back.

But before I could even take a single step—

“One last time, I’ll ask. What is your identity?”

Belial approached me, water dripping from him onto the floor.

His voice was filled with murderous intent.

Before what fell on the ground became my head, I had to answer quickly.

But.

Before I could open my mouth, Belial continued, “Today, I heard there was a commotion among Silveron’s army. A woman appeared claiming to be Archangel Isabella.”

That was only a few hours ago. How did he already know?

Belial spoke again, “You’re not human. But you’re not a demon either. You’re certainly not an angel. Then what are you?”

I bit down on my lower lip.

Well, how Belial came to know this wasn’t all that important.

He was still a demon, after all.

No, that’s not right. He now looked every bit the dignified demon he ought to be, so perhaps that description no longer fit.

In any case, Belial was one of the lords of the Demon Realm.

I didn’t know what scheme he had to involve himself in human wars, but it meant he had enough power to plant underlings in the enemy camp.

But there was something more important right now.

That Belial thought I was the archangel impostor.

Once again, Belial’s voice echoed in my ears like a hallucination.

I killed them.

For now, I should deny it. The truth was, I really did plan to impersonate the archangel. Maybe Belial would eventually find out everything, but that was a problem for later.

Right now, I have to get through this crisis.

I opened my mouth to make an excuse. “I clearly told you I’m the contractor of Archdemon Isabella. You can’t even remember what you just heard, you idiot.”

The words left my mouth, and I immediately wanted to bite my tongue.

That sounded less like an excuse and more like provocation.

Even in this moment, should I be proud of my instinctively sharp tongue, or should I smack myself?

For a fleeting instant, I forgot the urgency and entertained such a pointless thought.

Then—

“There are exactly two names you must never utter in front of me, and you dare to speak one of them.”

The murderous intent in Belial’s voice thickened.

Dark magic began to swirl in his hand. He didn’t seem to have any intention of hiding his identity from me.

Well, Belial knew I was aware of who he really was. There was no need for him to hide it.

In this worsening situation, I should have been uneasy, but instead I hesitated, seized by doubt.

A doubt so strong it momentarily erased my fear of Belial.

What Belial had just said.

That there were two names that must never be spoken.

It was as if he was saying that among the two he cherished, I was one of them.

Did Belial really think of me that way?

A strange emotion swept over me.

Belial had been treating me rather mildly, but I thought that was simply because I was the youngest among the lords.

But what he just said carried the tone of someone who cared for me more than I had expected.

Why on earth?

‘I was never such a lovable youngest.’

I might be shameless, but I wasn’t oblivious. I knew all too well how willful I had been with Belial.

Unconsciously, I opened my mouth and asked, “…What’s your relationship with Archdemon Isabella?”

“And you think someone like you is entitled to question me?”

Someone like me?

I narrowed my eyes at Belial.

You… disqualified as a big sister. [t/n: This references Belial, in his persona as the theater actress Lia Green, who always referred to herself as Bella’s big sister.]

Of course, I had never once thought of calling him that before either, but still, disqualified.

I hid my inner thoughts and asked in what I considered a fairly calm tone, “I’ve never heard that the Lord of Lust is close to the Lord of Contract. That’s why I asked… someone like me? Belial, have you lost your mind? How dare you speak to me like that?”

Just wait until I get back. I’ll march straight into the Demon Realm and make you pay.

At my outburst, Belial raised one eyebrow. “I don’t know what your true identity is, but at the very least I know you’ve lost both your courage and your ability to think.”

Then he continued, his tone crooked, “Isabella and I are at least closer than you. So you should never have uttered her name carelessly.”

That wasn’t the answer I wanted. On top of that, it was laughable.

Closer than me, to me? Then how could he not recognize me standing right before him?

Should I laugh in his face?

Hold it in. That was the conclusion I reached after a brief struggle.

I had already provoked him enough. I shouldn’t stir him up any further.

I barely held down the corner of my mouth that wanted to rise and said, “Just because you’re both lords doesn’t mean you’re blood-related family. So why would you harbor such affection for her?”

“That child is… as foolish as I am. So I can’t help but care for her.”

Belial’s eyes grew faintly hazy as he spoke.

Meanwhile, I couldn’t check for myself in a mirror, but I was sure sparks were flying in my own eyes.

Huh?

He dares to think of me that way? As if I could ever be as stupid as Belial.

Come to think of it, this wasn’t even the first time. Belial’s outrageous claim that I resembled him.

It was insulting, but at the same time, another thought came to me.

In any case, I had just confirmed that Belial not only treated me mildly but even held affection for me beyond that.

Then I should make use of it.

I declared confidently, “I am Isabella herself.”

At that, Belial’s gaze sharpened once more. He looked as though he didn’t believe a word I said.

“…I already thought you weren’t in your right mind when you impersonated an angel. But to say such a thing in front of me.”

Every word dripped with murderous intent, sharp as a blade.

He clearly had no intention of believing me.

Originally, my plan had been to reveal my identity and seek Belial’s help.

But would Belial believe me?

Instinctively, I realized there was no way the Belial before me would.

Before his murderous aura grew any thicker, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind in desperation.

“I mean Archangel Isabella!”

Belial’s killing intent finally dissipated.

He stared at me with a strange look and said, “…As if you could be an angel. You really are the impostor.”

The moment those words left his mouth, I had no choice but to admit it.

From the very beginning, the only one shameless enough to commit such heinous blasphemy as impersonating an archangel… was me.

As much as it stung to say it myself, it would be hard to find anyone more sincere in their blasphemy than I was.

Besides, wasn’t everything falling into place perfectly right now?

I recalled what Silia had told me.

That everything I had done in the past—in other words, everything I was going to do—had already been reflected in the present.

In short, from the start, the impostor of Archangel Isabella was me.

“Still, youngest. Don’t hate me, okay? I really didn’t know.”

Only then did I understand why Belial had said such things to me at the café.

That reaction. It was then that he realized the true identity of the archangel impostor.

You, I hate you.

I glared at Belial, hurling those words at him in my heart.
