Once I had somewhat recovered from the shock, I mulled over what Silia had told me.

Silia’s story felt strangely familiar.

Then I realized.

Silia’s prophecy was exactly the same as the content of the mural I found in the forest owned by the imperial palace.

‘The Final Prophecy.’

I asked Silia if she knew about the mural.

Silia shrugged and said, “Hm. I didn’t draw that mural, though.”

She glanced at me and added, “You’ll find out soon enough. Who drew that mural. It might be someone closer to you than you think.”

“If you’re not going to say it to the end, then keep your mouth—”

As she didn’t properly answer my question, I had sharp words prepared.

But Nigel cut me off midway, so I didn’t get to say them all.

“—Chieftain! We mustn’t delay any longer.”

At Nigel’s words, Silia blinked.

Then, as if something had dawned on her, she clapped her hands once and said to me, “What the child said isn’t wrong. If we delay any further, it might become dangerous.”

Silia stared at me for a moment and continued, “I’m just taking responsibility for my actions. After all, things turned out this way because I made the prophecy.”

Her eyes looked very sorrowful as she said this.

“From now on, there’s something you must do.”

Her previously light tone was nowhere to be found, and Silia began to speak to me in a serious voice.

“To begin this story, I must first explain a decision Uriel made five hundred years ago. The reason she died.”

Just as it seemed she would continue the explanation, Silia suddenly froze and fell silent.

It seemed she hadn’t become indifferent to her friend’s death.

After a brief silence, I asked, “Why did Uriel die?”

Even after I asked, Silia hesitated before answering.

“…Let’s just say it was to save you.”

“Me?”

“Because of that damned prophecy I made.”

Silia’s expression remained graceful. It was hard to believe such coarse words had just come out of her mouth.

“The Demon God was sealed. Then what remains? The Lord of Contract must lose their life. This is the unchangeable content of the prophecy. And to some, this prophecy is absolute.”

So could it be…?

Silia read my expression and answered, “Yes. Five hundred years ago. The reason Gabriel tried to manipulate your contractor to kill you. He firmly believed that only by killing you could Uriel survive.”

“That’s just…”

It was absurd. That damned prophecy was full of holes from the start. With the help of the Celestial God, I had successfully sealed the Demon God.

What would change if I were killed now?

Rather… the seal on the Demon God would probably break.

Now that I thought about it, that was right.

The one sealing the Demon God was the power of the Celestial God. When the Celestial God transferred that power to me, he had set a single condition.

“Hold humans dear.”

If I were to die… I wouldn’t be able to uphold that condition, and the contract would be destroyed. The seal would break as well.

Silia must have also considered Gabriel’s actions to be foolish.

“This is exactly why Gabriel lost his mind. Consumed by the prophecy, he can no longer think rationally. He wishes for your disappearance. He believes that if you vanish, Uriel will miraculously appear before him again. Or perhaps he has some other plan.”

It’s hard to truly understand the thoughts of someone so blinded by love that they try to kill their own child.

She clicked her tongue and muttered.

After a brief silence, I opened my mouth. “But I didn’t die. So in the end, your prophecy was wrong.”

But Silia responded firmly, “There has never been a prophecy that hasn’t come true. This one is no different. Uriel still died for your sake.”

Her voice was calm, but I could sense the trembling within.

Was that resentment toward me? Or sorrow mourning her dead friend?

Then.

Nigel, who had been quietly listening to our conversation, spoke up, “Chieftain. If you say it like that, Bella will misunderstand. Uriel’s death is by no means Bella’s fault.”

I glanced at Nigel. He was looking at me with a worried expression.

Nigel said to me gently, “Bella, maybe the chieftain’s prophecy was pointing to this situation from the very beginning. Bella, what happens if you die?”

“If I die… the seal on the Demon God will be broken.”

I spoke as if in a trance. Then, realizing what I had just said, I looked at Nigel in shock.

He didn’t look surprised. As if he already knew.

How did Nigel know this?

I had never told anyone about it. I had only just realized it myself moments ago.

Nigel shook his head and said, “It never made sense from the start. You can’t be the one who made the contract to sacrifice your life to stop the Demon God. If you die, the seal on the Demon God is broken.”

It was uncharacteristically sharp of Nigel. Not a single word he said was wrong.

Then that means I was never the main character of the prophecy to begin with.

Silia opened her mouth. “Protecting you is the very way to stop the Demon God.”

She continued, “Gabriel still harbors murderous intent toward you. He doesn’t hate you? Ha. That’s laughable.”

It seemed Silia had overheard the conversation between me and Gabriel in the temple.

“He’s still trapped in his delusion. Believing that if you die, Uriel will come back to life? That’s impossible.”

So as long as you’re alive, Bella, Gabriel will keep coming for your life, Silia emphasized again.

“The reason Uriel died… is because she made a contract with causality. The price of that contract was her life.”

“That contract is…”

Silia snapped her fingers. One of the dolls on the table turned to dust.

Only the uniform it had been wearing remained.

“Your way to fight against Gabriel. Uriel gave her life to put that weapon in your hands.”

Before I could ask what that weapon was, Silia spoke.

Bella. Listen closely from now on.

We’re going to send you to the past.

I was left speechless.

***

It didn’t take long to recover from the shock.

“Do you really think that makes sense?”

Going to the past? Even though I possessed the power of a contract that could twist causality, I knew it wasn’t that simple.

Rather, it was closer to impossible.

To make going to the past possible, an unimaginable price would have to be—

Ah.

No way?

Silia, as if reading my thoughts, nodded. “That’s right. The reason Uriel sacrificed her life. It was to give you that chance.”

I began to deduce based on the information I’d been given so far.

“It seems Uriel made a contract with causality. To give me the chance to return to the past and change the present and future… she offered her life as the price.”

“That’s almost correct. But there’s one thing you’ve misunderstood.”

Silia paused, then spoke again, “You already went to the past. I mean, the future version of you. This present reflects the past that you changed.”

Silia’s words confused me once more. I had a faint idea of what she was saying, but I was still lost.

Then Silia smiled and said, “Once you experience it for yourself, you’ll understand what I mean.”

“There’s still something I don’t get. If I go to the past… what exactly do I have to do?”

For some, turning back time might be an incredible opportunity.

But for me?

Right now, I had to face a mad angel filled with murderous intent toward me.

And that too, in a time when all gods had disappeared. The oldest being across all dimensions.

Even Lilith couldn’t guarantee victory against him. So what difference would going back in time make for me?

“It would make a huge difference. Because we’re going to save your contractor.”

Silia’s words shocked me once again.

Return to the past and save Zachary?
