I quite like it.

That was what I thought as I watched Silia criticize Gabriel.

Especially the contempt in her eyes directed at Gabriel. That emotion pleased me immensely.

I relaxed a little. Though the woman before me was suspicious, at the very least, she didn’t seem like someone who would harm me.

Silia smiled at me and said, “You wouldn’t believe it, but Gabriel was once filled with reason.”

“I see. Hard to believe.”

“Your anger toward Gabriel runs deep, I see. Well, I can’t say I don’t understand. The current Gabriel is the biggest fool in the world.”

Silia smiled once more and lightly touched my cheek with her finger.

Her touch, as if treating me like a child, irritated me.

Moreover, Silia went further and began calling me by a strange title.

“Young demon. Don’t call him your father. Just call him ‘that guy’ or, if you don’t even want to acknowledge he’s alive, call him ‘that thing.'”

Young demon? That too, like “child,” was quite a humiliating title.

Being treated as young usually meant being seen as someone to be protected.

Since becoming a full demon, the number of demons who called me young could be counted on one hand.

So the unfamiliar title was starting to get on my nerves.

But there was something more urgent at hand to worry about than voicing this irritation.

I looked around again and tried to grasp the situation I was in.

To sum up, I was now…

‘I absorbed the magic stone to somehow resist Gabriel, and when I came to, I found myself in the village of the beastkin.’

On top of that, seeing how my body was semi-transparent, it was fair to say I was in a soul state.

Since Nigel said I wasn’t dead, it meant he had some knowledge of the situation.

And then there was that mysterious woman.

I spoke to Nigel and Silia, “I need an explanation of what’s going on. Right now.”

Upon hearing me, Silia raised one eyebrow and said to Nigel, “Child. It seems you haven’t properly explained the current situation to this child.”

Her tone wasn’t scolding. It simply felt like she was trying to understand the situation.

What caught my attention more than that was the word “child.”

Pfft.

He might look unimpressive, but Nigel was still a being who had lived for tens of thousands of years. Yet here he was, being called “child.”

Perhaps feeling awkward about the situation, Nigel muttered to me with red ears, “It’s just the Chief’s way of speaking. She calls everyone whose birth she’s witnessed ‘child.’ Thanks to that, in our village, there’s no one who isn’t the Chief’s ‘child.’”

“Thanks for the excuse, ‘child’…”

I couldn’t finish my sentence.

Because I realized what Nigel’s words meant. Silia had definitely used the title “child” with me too.

I turned my head toward Silia.

I needed an explanation. Right now.

Silia, reading my expression and understanding what I was about to say, gave a playful smile and said, “It’s going to be a long story. Sit down first.”

Silia waved her hand in the air. Then, a small table and three chairs appeared in a spot where nothing had been before.

‘So beastkin have powers like this too?’

Aside from Nigel, this was the first beastkin I’d met.

The energy that spread when Silia moved her hand felt much like magic.

I had always thought the power beastkin wielded was similar to the aura humans used.

But the energy I felt just now… it was so powerful I instinctively tensed up.

I glanced at Nigel and said, “Why can’t you do stuff like that? You really are pathetic.”

“Of course I can’t. Unlike me, the Chief is someone who possesses a Power and has lived for countless years besides. But even in this situation, that’s what you choose to say?”

Of course. I’m a demon who never loses spirit, no matter what.

I worried for a moment that, since I was in soul form, I might fall straight through the chair and embarrass myself, but I managed to sit down safely.

Even with an incomplete body, I could sit like this.

No matter how I thought about it, I still didn’t understand what condition I was in.

When I asked Silia, she answered concisely, “You had consumed too much demonic power and were on the verge of going berserk. Young demon, do you not value your life? No matter how angry you are with Gabriel, to make such a choice…”

“…There are things more important than life.”

In my case, that would be vengeance. Vengeance against Gabriel for daring to interfere with my life and throwing it into chaos.

“In that regard, you resemble your mother. She too had someone she valued more than her own life.”

As Silia said this, she stared at me intently. Instinctively, I understood who she was referring to.

Silia continued, “In any case, before you went berserk, I temporarily brought your soul here.”

“Then what’s happening at the cathedral right now?”

At my question, Silia waved her hand into the air. Then, the scene of the cathedral appeared before my eyes.

Inside the cathedral, not even the slightest movement could be seen. Everyone was frozen in place.

I asked Silia, “Why is it like that?”

“I briefly twisted the flow of time. The amount of time it takes to drink a cup of tea here will be no more than a blink of an eye over there.”

At Silia’s words, my eyes widened. Twisting the flow of time… something even I couldn’t do.

Silia, displaying such overwhelming power without so much as a change in her breathing. Just how strong was she?

Silia continued, “You’ve been thrown out of Isabella’s body. So, right now, it’s correct to say you’re in a soul state. There are minor side effects, but you won’t feel much difference compared to when you had your body.”

“Side effects?”

“Yes. Existing in only a soul state without a body means gradually losing reason, and eventually, you become nothing more than a lump of energy.”

That didn’t sound like a minor side effect.

I wanted to argue, but I held back, thinking it would only waste time.

What mattered now was understanding the situation.

When I stayed quiet, Silia began to tell her story.

“Where should I begin?”

Silia slowly began to choose her words.

“Well then, about twenty thousand years ago. The God of the Middle Realm died. After that, I chose seclusion. But even so, I couldn’t sever the ties I’d formed before retreating.”

When she said she would tell me her story, I had expected it to be long, but I didn’t think it would start twenty thousand years ago.

In that way, beings who lived forever were truly… exhausting.

Silia continued speaking.

True to being a bearer of Power, Silia had lived for an incredibly long time. During that time, she formed ties even with other races.

“Gabriel and Uriel were dear friends of mine. Especially Gabriel and I shared a close bond.”

The moment she said that, I tensed. I had confirmed that Silia had negative feelings toward Gabriel, yet she said that…

Silia smiled as if to reassure me and said, “Now we’re complete strangers. You could even say we’re worse than strangers. The reason archangels aren’t free to come and go in the Middle Realm is because my relationship with Gabriel broke down.”

Huh? Was that the case?

Come to think of it, Demon Lords came and went freely in the Middle Realm, but it was rare to see archangels there.

I had thought the archangels were simply too lofty to bother coming down of their own accord, but maybe that wasn’t it.

‘So that’s what Gabriel meant.’

“She… is still angry with me. That’s why our influence in the Middle Realm is limited.”

Apparently, the “she” Gabriel referred to was Silia.

As if reading my thoughts, Silia said, “I didn’t completely block access, but since about five hundred years ago, unless it’s a special situation like the Grand Prayer Gathering, an archangel can’t descend to the Middle Realm without my permission.”

As for the Grand Prayer Gathering, it’s been an exception since the days when the Celestial God was still present.

“The reason you weren’t noticed by the Celestial Realm while staying in the Middle Realm is also somewhat thanks to my power.”

With those words, Silia gave a peculiar smile and continued, “This situation ultimately happened because of my mistake. A long time ago, I resolved never to prophesy again. But about a thousand years ago, I broke that resolution just once.”

Silia gently closed her eyes and told me what happened then.

Even after she chose seclusion, Gabriel would occasionally descend to the Middle Realm to meet her.

Sometimes, Gabriel would seek Silia’s wisdom.

And then one day.

“Silia. Things don’t look good. It seems the Demon God doesn’t have much time left to maintain his reason.”

“He’s been insane for a very long time. We just turned a blind eye.”

“You’re not wrong. Anyway, Silia, I have a favor to ask. Show me the future. What will happen after the Demon God completely loses his mind?”

“…Gabriel. As I’ve said many times, my power doesn’t show the future, it’s prophecy.”

“That prophecy contains the future.”

“A future that can’t be changed. Should we really call that the future?”

Back then, Silia still shared a deep friendship with Gabriel. So after his repeated persuasion, she finally gave in.

She shouldn’t have.

The future she saw in her prophecy was devastating. At least, for Gabriel, who was going to lose his beloved.

“You were right. The Demon God will soon lose his reason. And then the massacre will begin. The first to face the Demon God’s wrath will be the Middle Realm.”

“As expected… Is there anyone shown in the prophecy who stops the Demon God?”

“The Lord of Contract.”

“……”

“The Lord of Contract stops the Demon God, and in return, loses their life. That’s the future I saw.”

The future seen through prophecy can’t be changed. The death of the Lord of Contract was a fixed outcome.

And then.

Shaken, Gabriel remained silent for a long time and then finally spoke:

“The one who has to die is the Lord of Contract. It doesn’t have to be Uriel, does it?”
