The suspicion I had on the first day I reunited with Lilith turned out to be true after all.

Lilith had indeed come to the Middle Realm and the Empire because she had business to attend to, wearing the body of her contractor.

As for me, well, I was just an added bonus.

Realizing that made my mood sink completely.

I was clearly showing how down I was, yet the male Jane cluelessly spoke to me.

“Um, Miss Bella. How long is Lady Lilith going to stay here?”

“Yeah. Think about our situation for a second.”

Situation? Did those two just say they had a situation?

I scoffed and asked them, “What do you mean by your situation? Are you even in a position to talk about situations in the first place?”

Strictly speaking, aren’t these two technically my slaves right now?

Despite my words, the angels resolutely continued speaking.

“Miss Bella, do you really think it makes sense for angels to live under the same roof as the Demon King? We don’t even have any power. We’re just ordinary angels. Just being in the same space as Lady Lilith feels like it’s shortening our lifespan.”

“Yeah. These days, even when I lie down to sleep at night, I can’t sleep because I can still sense Lady Lilith’s presence.”

Their angelic concerns were none of my business.

But now that I looked closely, the two of them were calling Lilith and me by different titles.

“Why is Lilith called Lady Lilith?”

While they call me Miss Bella.

At my question, the male Jane chuckled awkwardly and replied, “Isn’t that obvious? Lady Lilith has lived for countless years. Besides, she’s the supreme ruler of the demons.”

“I’m a pretty fearsome demon too.”

“Haa. Then should we call you Lady Bella too?”

“…Forget it.”

Not a shred of sincerity in that tone.

As a generous demon, I should endure it.

Besides, unlike Belial, Lilith is a demon who deserves respect.

I can’t stand seeing her treated like Belial, who was called something like ‘Miss Green.’

Anyway.

I started pacing around the room again.

Blackie had gone out to hunt and hadn’t returned yet.

Well, he must be very hungry after not eating for a while. He’s probably out there gleefully wiping out the monsters of the Middle Realm.

As for Nigel…

“Bella. I’m going to visit my hometown for a bit. I got word that the Chief has returned to the village. I have something to discuss with him.”

“I’ll go with you.”

“Hmm. I’d usually take you with me, but not this time. You know who’s in the Empire right now, don’t you?”

On the day Lilith arrived at the ducal mansion, he informed me that he needed to visit his hometown.

“Well, of course it shouldn’t happen, and it better not, but… if something were to provoke the Demon King’s wrath, it’d be better if you were there.”

“Hmm? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Because I think you’re the only one who could calm her down? Anyway, if she decides to destroy the Empire, you’ll have to talk her out of it. Got it?”

“Of course, I’ll be cheering for Lilith, though.”

“Haha. You and your jokes. Anyway, I’m counting on you. I’ll be back soon.”

That wasn’t a joke.

Nigel refused to let me come with him for some weird reason.

And so, I was spending my days without Nigel by my side for the first time in a while.

I never thought I’d say this, but… Nigel’s absence was very noticeable.

The ducal mansion felt quieter than ever.

Even Gabby and the Duke seemed to be quite busy lately.

With Lilith visiting the mansion, I thought things would never be dull, but they kept leaving the mansion every day.

I grumbled for no reason.

Meanwhile, at the same time—

It was a rare bright and warm day, but unlike the weather outside, the Crown Prince’s office felt as if a cold snap had settled in.

The source of that chill was probably…

The Crown Prince stared at the woman who had comfortably seated herself in the middle of his office.

Born as a prince of the Empire and named Crown Prince at a young age.

For someone like him, feeling intimidated by others was uncommon.

But considering who the woman was, it wasn’t strange at all.

The woman stared at the Crown Prince with emotionless eyes.

“Human.”

Princess Karolea made no attempt to hide her identity from the Crown Prince.

He already knew that the princess was the Demon King Lilith’s contractor.

So when she suddenly visited the Empire, he thought he had mentally prepared himself.

But it wasn’t the contractor who had come—it was the demon herself.

And not just any demon, but Lilith, the ruler of all demons.

Lilith smiled at the Crown Prince.

It was clearly a bright, full smile with both corners of her lips lifted, but Crown Prince Adrian couldn’t shake the feeling that she was mocking him.

“It has been a long time since I’ve seen a contractor of Dantalion live this long.”

“…Is that so?” the Crown Prince answered reluctantly.

“Dantalion disposes of his contractors as soon as they become useless. You must have been a fairly useful tool.”

Lilith’s words sounded like praise, but were also a warning.

A warning about his end.

The Crown Prince merely gave a bitter smile. From the moment he decided to make a contract with Dantalion, he had already anticipated how things would end.

“So, human. Did you tell Dantalion that I’m here?”

“I haven’t been able to tell him yet. My master contacts me unilaterally. I haven’t been given the right to initiate contact.”

“That right will never be granted. To Dantalion, contractors are nothing more than tools,” Lilith said with a mocking tone.

Then she gazed at the Crown Prince for a moment and asked, “Do you know what Dantalion’s goal is?”

“My master is not one to share such things with me,” said the Crown Prince while suppressing his humiliation.

Though called a demon’s contractor, the Crown Prince knew his position well.

At best, he was a tool for Dantalion.

Someone who had to carry out orders without complaint or question.

He had long suspected that Dantalion was scheming something in the Middle Realm, but he had no idea what it actually was.

Lilith raised one corner of her mouth and asked, “Dantalion has kept a human contractor for quite a long time. Roughly five hundred years, I believe? In that time, he’s gone through dozens of contractors.”

The Crown Prince flinched at the mention of five hundred years.

For some reason, that number bothered him.

Five hundred years… wasn’t that how long Bella secluded herself in the Demon Realm after being betrayed by her contractor?

But surely it was just a coincidence.

Even though he felt uneasy, the Crown Prince settled on that conclusion.

“At first, I thought it was just one of Dantalion’s twisted hobbies… but it’s starting to get annoying.”

As Lilith said this, she clenched her hand.

The teacup she was holding crumbled into dust and spilled through her fingers.

The Crown Prince simply watched in silence.

After all, he knew nothing.

So he stayed quiet, hoping not to draw Lilith’s wrath.

“Ah. Something very interesting will happen in the capital soon,” Lilith said in a calm tone, as if her earlier rage had vanished.

“What do you mean by that?”

“The High Priest said he wants to show me something. It’s laughable that he thinks up such things with that crude little brain of his, but… well, it’s not entirely useless.”

Upon hearing her words, the Crown Prince recalled something.

Now that he thought about it, he had heard that the princess had visited the temple and had several conversations with the High Priest.

He also heard that the temple had moved up the New Year’s prayer gathering by a few months.

At the time, he had wondered why the temple made such a decision, but putting together what Lilith just said…

“It would be best if you weren’t there. It’s better to minimize variables.”

With that, Lilith rose from her seat.

“Um, Lady Lilith. Is Lady Bella doing well?”

The Crown Prince called out to her back as she was about to leave.

It slipped out almost instinctively.

Lilith stopped in her tracks. She stood still for a moment, then turned and looked at him.

“Bella? And why would a mere human like you worry about Bella’s well-being?”

Lilith looked at the Crown Prince with eyes full of contempt.

He bit his lip softly at her words.

A mere human.

No matter how noble the status or how strong the skills, to demons, humans were inferior beings.

Even Dantalion often treated him that way.

He had believed all demons were the same until he met Bella.

Of course, he didn’t think Bella respected him. She was someone who even mocked the Celestials when she felt like it.

But at the very least, he never felt scorned by her.

Lilith slowly opened her mouth. “Bella is unusually kind for a demon. She must have gone soft to have a human like you asking after her.”

Lilith looked at him again with eyes full of contempt. “You’re not the first human to forget their place. I’m sure you’ve heard what happened to the last one.”

The Crown Prince silently nodded. There was no way he didn’t know how the first emperor of the Empire met his end.

“That human’s end was… well, far more miserable than you think. He suffered for a very long time. He might still be suffering, for all we know.”

Lilith spoke words the Crown Prince couldn’t fully understand.

“So stop taking an interest in Bella. Isn’t your life already deep enough in the gutter?”

Lilith warned him coldly.
