It was an unexpected ambush. Unlike the large hand that completely enveloped mine with its firm grip, his voice and expression somehow stirred a sense of pity. My heart suddenly pounded loudly.

“W-what are you saying all of a sudden? It’s late. Both you and I need to sleep now.”

“Then sleep here tonight.”

“Huh? What did you just say?”

I let the maids attend to me and took more care in bathing than usual.

After putting on my nightgown and throwing a robe over it, I headed toward Ethan’s bedroom.

‘He looked really tired… maybe he fell asleep while waiting? That would be ideal.’

Holding onto that hope, I knocked on Ethan’s door. But contrary to my expectations, a voice called out from inside.

“Come in.”

I let out a small breath to calm my nerves before stepping inside.

“You’re late.”

Ethan was sitting on the bed, wearing a night robe like me. His chest and abdomen were partially visible through the open front, showing that he was only wearing pants underneath.

“Well… things just ended up taking longer… You could’ve gone ahead and slept.”

I muttered, avoiding his gaze slightly. Ethan didn’t respond to that. Instead, he reached out his hand toward me.

“Come here.”

At his words, my heart pounded loudly again.

‘No, wait. That’s not what he meant… right?’

Tense, I walked toward the bed. But instead of sitting beside Ethan, I deliberately sat far away from him.

“…Just so you know, we’re only sleeping. Like I said earlier, we’re both exhausted, and we have more interrogations to conduct tomorrow.”

“Are you sure you mean ‘just so you know’? It sounds more like something you should’ve said earlier rather than now.”

“Don’t worry. If you don’t want to, I won’t force you.”

Ethan spoke calmly before taking off his robe. The dim lighting cast deep shadows over his torso, making the contours of his muscles stand out even more.

I quickly turned my head away from him.

Ethan rustled as he got into bed.

“Aren’t you going to lie down?”

“…I-I am.”

I swallowed hard, took off my robe, and hurriedly slipped under the covers.

Lying on my side with my back turned to Ethan, he called me again.

“Yes? W-why?”

“Aren’t you lying too close to the edge? You might fall off.”

“I can’t sleep properly unless I’m at the edge.”

“…Since when?”

“It’s been a while. Anyway, that’s just how I sleep.”

After a moment of doubtful silence, Ethan let out a quiet sigh. Soon, I felt the blanket pull as he moved closer to me.

Startled, I turned to look back, only to find Ethan right behind me.

“W-what are you doing?”

“I can’t sleep unless I’m at the edge either.”

“That’s ridiculous… Since when?”

“Just now.”

I was so dumbfounded that my mouth hung open.

“If you want to sleep at the edge, you can go to the other side. Why are you coming this way?”

“I can only sleep on the right side.”

As I tried to get up, I was suddenly pulled back into bed. Ethan had wrapped his arms around me from behind.

He placed his arm under my head as a pillow and wrapped his other arm around me, bringing me even closer. My forehead touched his firm chest, and we were now pressed together more intimately than before. The scent of soap mixed with his natural scent enveloped me.

I held my breath, completely still in his embrace.
