<The Saintess Is a Spy! – 5th Playthrough ->

<The time ratio between game and reality is 1:1.>

<While the game is in progress, your real body will remain in a sleep state.>

As soon as I connected to the system, I looked around.

This was the first time the starting point had been set automatically. I quickly scanned my surroundings to assess the situation.

It was a room with no one else in it. It was definitely not my room in the Holy Kingdom, and also not the shabby room on the outskirts of the Imperial Palace I had shared with Dion during his route.

A simple room with just a desk, a bed, and minimal furnishings.

It wasn’t Dietrich’s room, nor Lucius’s. That left only Adrian.

Once I finished observing, I immediately checked the affection meter.

The point in time was…

<Affection Levels>

  • Ardal: ♥♥♥♥♥ (Maximum affection reached)
  • Orias: ♥♥♥♥♥ (Maximum affection reached)
  • Dion: ♥♥♥♥♥ (Maximum affection reached)

The route with Dion had already been completed. I calmly traced my memories.

We had returned to the palace with Dion, and after that…

“Saintess.”

I must have been staying with Dietrich. But this time was different. The one calling me wasn’t Dietrich, but Adrian.

“After Sir Dion departed, you collapsed, so we brought you to the closest location.”

Adrian explained with a blunt expression. Seeing his unchanged face, even as he looked at me, made it sink in—I was in the game again.

“There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong physically, but if there’s any discomfort, please let me know.”

“So… what you’re saying is…”

“You’ll be staying here.”

It seemed I had entered the game to begin Adrian’s single route—and ended up here as a result.

Adrian hadn’t even fully entered the room and was still standing by the door as he spoke. His attitude made it clear he had no desire to spend more time than necessary.

“If anything comes up, contact me. Now then, I’ll take my leave.”

“Ah, wait—!”

Just as I was about to nod, I saw Adrian reaching to close the door without giving me a chance to respond. I hurriedly leapt from the bed.

I jumped too quickly, and my legs tangled in the sheets. I fell, catching myself with my hands. Falling so clumsily was one thing, but the wrist I caught myself with throbbed in pain.

“Ah…”

As I lay sprawled on the floor, clutching my wrist and groaning, Adrian let out a sigh that practically dripped with contempt. He stood silently for a moment, looking down at me, then finally stepped into the room.

“I’ll take a look.”

“Sorry to bother you… I tried to get up too fast, and my legs gave out…”

“There’s no need to explain.”

“O-okay.”

I shut my mouth and held out my sprained wrist.

Adrian examined my wrist with a neutral, emotionless touch. When he gently twisted the limp wrist and I let out a faint gasp, he furrowed his brow slightly—but it lasted only a moment.

“It’s not serious. Still, be cautious not to use that hand for a few days.”

“All right.”

I pitied my poor hand, constantly getting battered. Thankfully, everything would be fine once I exited the game.

Just as Adrian finished checking my condition and helped me up, his gaze suddenly fixed on my shoulder.

<Special Event: ‘Reunion’>

  • This event is triggered when Adrian confirms the player’s injury.
  • Entry Condition: Adrian confirms the player’s injury.
  • Reward: ???

A translucent window floated in front of his face. I’d seen this event before.

Right. This was one of those moments.

Only then did I realize my robe had slipped down. That exposed my shoulder, and Adrian’s gaze had fallen on the old scar.

I remembered the system’s earlier warning that overlaying data wasn’t recommended, but this scene matched what I experienced in Adrian’s route—so it didn’t seem too dangerous.

Nothing’s different—it’s exactly like before.

I had a good feeling that this playthrough might be an easy win. Once this special event triggered, Adrian’s route would proceed smoothly.

I exposed more of the shoulder where Adrian’s eyes were fixed. As I subtly let the robe slide down, his gaze deepened.

“Saintess, could you tell me… how you got that scar?”

Adrian gently pulled the slipping robe back over my shoulder as he asked. His voice, more subdued than before, held warmth absent when he examined my wrist. It was a voice tinged with memory.

<Entering special event ‘Reunion’.>

Just as the system window appeared, I barely managed to keep the corners of my lips from curling up.

This might really be a new record.

“Ah, this is…”

Barely composing my expression, I forced my eyes to crinkle as if sorrowful and muttered.

It was the kind of voice that suggested a backstory to anyone who heard it, and I could feel Adrian focusing on me. I took a deep breath as if tense and paused, then continued in a low voice.

“I thought… you would remember, Adrian.”

“…Pardon?”

I didn’t say anything more and carefully drew Adrian’s hand toward me. I unfolded his palm and wrote his name on it.

Adrian’s eyes widened as he looked down at me.

“You…”

Hm?

His reaction was more serious than expected.

“Ah!”

Adrian suddenly gripped the wrist I had sprained earlier. Not exactly the kind of reaction one would expect from someone reunited with their savior.

At the same time, system windows popped up in rapid succession.

<There is a discrepancy with the information Adrian has acquired.>

  • Information Adrian has acquired: ‘Player’s Eyes’
  • Information Adrian has acquired: ‘Player’s Scream’

<The information for ‘Player’s Eyes’ does not match.>

<Due to the discrepancy, the reward for the special event ‘Reunion’ has been changed.>

  • Reward: Adrian’s alertness level has significantly increased

<Adrian’s alertness is extremely high. A new event has been generated.>

<Event ‘Adrian’s Suspicion’ has been created.>

  • Capture target [Adrian] is suspicious of the Saintess’s actions.
  • If his alertness is not lowered, you will enter a bad ending.
  • Objective: Lower Adrian’s alertness level to 30 or below
  • Current alertness level: 90
  • Reward: None

“How do you know this?”

Through the system window, I could see Adrian’s eyes blazing cold green. As I met his wary gaze, I recalled something I hadn’t considered.

After capturing Orias and regaining my power, my once-blue eyes had turned gold, filled with holy power. The change in eye color remained even when using Haniel’s body in the game.

So the ‘me’ Adrian remembered wasn’t this version with golden eyes—but the past version of me with blue eyes.

The only information Adrian had was the eye color and the scream. Given that, and my recent actions, he could only reach one conclusion.

“Do you know her?”

That I knew the person who had changed Adrian’s past.

“Tell me. What did you do to her?”

And that I had extracted information from her in order to deceive Adrian.

Adrian grabbed me by the neck. His green eyes, now filled with killing intent, bore into me.

In short, I had failed again.

“Logout.”

<This is an area where logout is not permitted.>

“Logout…”

<This is an area where logout is not permitted.>

I tried logging out several more times before finally drooping my head in defeat.

The cost of ignoring the system’s warning had been brutal.

I hugged my knees and glumly toyed with the chain fastened not to my ankle—but around my neck.

Adrian, you lunatic…

I should’ve known how obsessive he was when he entered the Imperial Palace and became a scribe just to meet me.

If I had anticipated how threatening Adrian could become once he wasn’t on my side, I wouldn’t have ended up like this.

After that incident, Adrian, who had lived solely to reunite with me, had fastened a metal chain around my neck.

Unlike Orias, who had treated me with reverence, Adrian regarded me like a criminal.

Dragged helplessly by my hair, I had been hauled past the herb chamber in his office and thrown into a room even deeper inside.

To Adrian, who now saw me as an enemy, there was no mercy. With not a shred of gentleness, he yanked my hair and pulled me along, indifferent to whether I stumbled or fell, and locked me up in this place.

“You never said there was a place like this…!”

I used to think the strange expressions Hella sometimes made when entering the herb chamber were because of Adrian.

Turns out, the sharp-eyed Hella must have known about this hidden room.

If only I had asked…

A room where logout is disabled—this was the most horrific space imaginable for me.

I slumped against the wall, one hand absently stroking the thick chain around my neck.

The chill from the stone wall seeped through my back, so different from the warmth I’d once felt in Adrian’s arms.

I had no clue how to resolve this situation. Only a deep, dragging sigh escaped me, again and again.

“Haah, I messed it up… again.”
