Ignoring Margaret, who stared at her with a twinkle in her eye, Innis strolled calmly along the river.

As Margaret grew older and more educated, her current immaturity would fade.

Innis had no doubt that she would.

Though, of course, Innis could not predict how Margaret would behave in the years to come, when she had grown up and become a different person, and she would still be as foul-mouthed as ever.

“But are you sure the crown prince is coming here?” Innis asked Margaret, her eyes darting around.

Margaret was desperate to see Enoch’s face from afar, which was why Innis had left her busy schedule to come out with her.

“I’m sure he’ll be over that bridge,” she said, “and it can’t be false information, not after how hard I got it.”

“How much money did you spend on that useless information this time?” Innis asked Margaret with a pathetic look on her face.

Margaret, of course, didn’t give a hair’s breadth how Innis looked at her.

“What does that matter?”

In response to Margaret’s answer, Innis shook her head, realizing that she would lose to Margaret again. She was unusually weak against her younger sisters.

“Wait, Innis. Do you see them? What are they doing?”

In the direction Margaret pointed, there were two men hanging from the bridge. They scanned the area quickly and then scrambled down.

It was the Lanverson Bridge, the bridge that Prince Enoch was scheduled to pass over in an hour.

“This is too suspicious,” Innis said. Margaret agreed wholeheartedly.

It also looked a bit sloppy. So much so that Innis and Margaret noticed it right away.

Of course, everyone else was in a festive mood and didn’t seem to pay attention to the two men in work clothes.

The two men walked casually down the promenade, looking around quickly.

Only when they passed Margaret and Innis did the men use their magic communication devices to speak.

“It’s working, isn’t it? When did you say the crown prince would be passing by?”

“I think he’ll be here within the hour.”

“Good. Time it right. Where’s the Lord of the Magic Tower?”

“I’ve dug a trap. It’ll take him a while to come.”

Hearing them chatter, Margaret and Innis looked at each other’s faces.

Somehow, the channels overlapped with the magic communication devices Margaret and Innis had brought with them.

At first, they wondered if they were talking about the fireworks, but they knew the general location of the bridge where the fireworks would be set up, as House Floné had provided equipment for the festival.

Besides, Margaret’d just confirmed that the bridge Enoch was supposed to pass over would not have fireworks.

“Innis.”

“I heard that, too. That’s weird.”

Margaret and Innis turned to face each other.

When one of the two men disappeared and only one remained, they rushed toward the man who was walking away.

Innis hit the man hard on the back of the head with her fan, and when he turned around, Margaret kicked him in the foot.

It was certainly not the behavior of an ordinary noblelady.

Innis paused for a moment in mortification, then sighed and grabbed the man by the collar.

Still, she is the eldest daughter of the illustrious Flone, and she couldn’t just walk away leaving questions unanswered.

“What, what!”

People walking by stopped in their tracks and turned around in surprise.

“Don’t make a fuss if you don’t want to attract attention here.”

At Innis’s subtle threat, the man glanced around and shut up.

“Don’t you know who we are?”

“Who, who are you?”

“We are the young ladies of House Floné.”

The man blinked in confusion. He started to break out in a cold sweat, as if he hadn’t expected this.

How did the Flonés know about this?

I don’t know where it went wrong, because we’d checked to make sure no one involved in the plan was around at this hour.

I even stole work clothes, and I intentionally had all the conversations about the plan through a magic communication device, so how could……!

It was then that Margaret untied the belt she wore decoratively around her waist and tied the man’s hands.

“Where did you learn to tie knots like that?”

“Reading a book. It looked interesting. More interesting than etiquette.”

Innis stared at Margaret like she was looking at a strange creature. Margaret, meanwhile, turned to the man.

“Hey, you. You’re going to have to answer everything I ask you, because I’m the mad dog of House Floné. Once I bite, I won’t let go.”

“Is that what you pride your nobility on?”

The man, the wizard Encanto, looked perplexed when he heard the name Margaret.

There’s a mad dog like that in the Magic Tower: Kayden.

It was usually a bad thing to get caught with a mad dog.

Encanto thought quickly.

What he was about to do was treason.

He had secret instructions from the Empress to plant a bomb on the bridge that Prince Enoch was passing over, to collapse the bridge just as the fireworks began, killing him.

If I say the wrong thing now, I’ll get myself killed. Since it’s like this, I have to step out alone. We can’t all die together.

“Do you feel like explaining what’s going on?”

Margaret and Innis asked him shortly afterward.

Then, hearing Encanto’s story, Margaret and Innis turned their heads.

They could see the Lanverson Bridge in their sights, and the carriage that was approaching it, the carriage in which the Crown Prince was riding.

“Innis.”

“Yes. Let’s go.”

Innis and Margaret ran, holding each other’s hands.

***

A little while ago, in the palace of Langridge.

“It’s the Empress’s provocation, why would you respond to such a useless provocation?” Diego walked behind Enoch, his face perplexed.

The Empress’s harassment of Enoch had intensified since Rodvan had abdicated as crown prince and been exiled to the north.

But he had to endure. Despite Rodvan’s downfall and the people’s rabid support for him, there were still many who wanted to overthrow Enoch and reinstate Rodvan.

“The fireworks festival will last for four days. You don’t have to attend every day, just one. If you don’t, won’t it diminish your majesty as crown prince?”

For a moment, Diego wondered why he was acting like Enoch’s aide.

But Enoch didn’t have a trusted aide yet. He didn’t even have anyone he could trust, let alone a base of support. Most of the people he could trust were dead in the war.

“The words will come out the same whether I show up or not. I might as well fulfill my duty.”

Enoch was stubborn. Overly inflexible and conservative, like a soldier who had spent years on the battlefield.

Diego sighed.

Enoch stopped climbing into the carriage and looked back at Diego. Enoch’s hardened face softened at the sight of Diego.

“You are full of worries.”

Enoch chuckled at Diego’s bewilderment.

“I suppose that’s what happens when you spend years rolling around on the battlefields and then end up at a nobleman’s party.”

Climbing the steps of the carriage, Enoch said, “It’s fun to watch the kids play sometimes.”

The carriage door closed. Diego patted his chest in relief.

Okay. Who cares about who?

That’s how they reached the bridge over the Arden River.

“Why isn’t the carriage moving?”

Enoch’s question was answered by Diego, who was escorting the carriage.

“It’s because of the festival and the crowds.”

“……Let’s go on foot.”

“Yes? That’s impossible. How can the crown prince travel on foot to a party?”

“It’s better than not being on time and giving the Empress something to mock. Don’t worry, we’ll be traveling on horseback once we cross the bridge.”

Okay. At least they’ll be riding horses.

As Diego breathed a sigh of relief, Enoch finally dismounted near the Arden Bridge.

And that’s when he encountered something unexpected. Three or four men on white horses were blocking the bridge.

Enoch suddenly realized why the traffic was at a standstill. It wasn’t the crowds, it was the men.

The men, all in fine riding clothes, appeared to be aristocrats, and they were deliberately blocking Enoch’s path. It was as if they were stalling for time.

‘Is this a ploy to keep me from attending the party?’

Maybe they were sent by the Empress. No, Enoch was almost certain.

The crowd of nobles wasn’t just blocking the carriages from moving, they were also blocking the steps of those traveling on foot. This was not the first time he’d been disturbed.

Enoch sighed in annoyance and pulled his pocket watch from his jacket pocket. It was probably too late to leave now.

“Sir Diego, you’d better file a report at the local police station.”

“That would delay us. I’d rather we just take a different route…….”

“But that doesn’t mean I can turn a blind eye to the inconvenience caused to other citizens.”

Enoch’s words stunned Diego into silence.

At that moment, nobles on horseback swung cricket bats at passing citizens. It was a very violent sight.

“They must be the third son of Marquis Rohade, Baron Rockford, and heir to the Count of Baker.”

Diego, who had been watching the scene calmly, spoke softly to Enoch, “All of them are hostile to the Crown Prince. Do you know what the situation is now?”

With those words, Diego hoped Enoch would stop thinking about taking action and turn around.

The Young Lady of Floné’s obsession with Enoch had gotten him some attention, but he’s a crown prince with no support.

So to create friction with nobles who are neither neutral nor close to the Empress’s faction would be to give them leeway.

Enoch rolled up his sleeves at the cufflinks.

“Your Highness.”

At Diego’s urging, Enoch halted in his tracks. He glanced at Diego, his eyes intimidating.

“Do you think I need your permission?”

“I’m sorry.”

Enoch turned away. Diego chuckled to himself as he watched the men cower in fear at the murderous aura Enoch exuded.

Most of them recognized him as the crown prince, of course, but Enoch hadn’t risen to the crown for nothing. It was no ordinary bet.

The only people who cared about Enoch’s support base were those who had nothing to do with him, and Enoch himself never seemed to care about such things.

Diego meekly followed Enoch, offering his condolences to the three men who were causing such a scene.
