“You didn’t know, did you?”
Even the lips tickling her earlobe felt like too much stimulation.
“You didn’t know you’d end up doing something like this with me, did you?”
The playful tone, as if telling a child a story, made something rise up in Tilia’s throat.
“Did you figure it out?”
But, as always, instead of crying, Tilia chose to lash out with venom.
“Did you ever think I’d do something this disgusting with you?”
The venom-laden words caused Ilex’s smooth lips to tighten.
Seeing his relaxed smile falter, she felt a fleeting, meaningless sense of victory.
“I knew.”
“Ugh!”
Her vision began to blur more than ever before. She couldn’t breathe. Her head spun. Only then did she realize—he had, to some extent, been holding back.
“I knew from the beginning. You and I… we were always going to end up like this.”
He whispered, but Tilia’s ears no longer registered the sound. Her pale hand, slipping down, no longer had the strength to hurl any more insults.
